BMW X5d Intake Manifold

Recently scooped up a 2016 BMW X5 N57 (roughly 70k miles on it) with the N57 engine and like all of my diesel projects, it was time to squeeze a little more out of it. I like to focus on efficiency first, performance second.

First thing to check was the intake manifold and runners for all of the post-EGR soot.

Grabbed myself a cheap plastic bin and soaked the entire manifold in full-strength Purple Power. After 3 days of sitting in the sun, some toothbrush action, and a lot of rinsing. They cleaned up very well!

I replaced all 6 rubber seals on the intake manifold and then at the elbow (where the EGR cooler attaches). Do keep in mind, each plastic piece (where the swirl flaps are located) for the manifold needs to be removed for cleaning and reinserted so that the rubber seals have something to keep them in check when pressed against the manifold.

Well, that's it for the intake manifold and runners. Next up is the downpipe, followed up with some custom exhaust work.

Check back for more projects!
